When the news broke around 3:15pmET yesterday of the massacre at Ft. Hood, the 24-hour news networks went in to high gear. A day later, we have the ratings which show where TV viewers went for information.

Between 3pmET and 7pmET, Fox News averaged 2.60M Total Viewers and 627K in A25-54 viewers coming in first of the three cable news networks, and adding viewers with each subsequent hour. CNN averaged 1.33M Total Viewers and 371K in the demo, seeing some drop-off at 6pmET. MSNBC averaged 624K Total Viewers and 196K in the demo, like FOX adding viewers with each hour.

Fox News beat the combined Total Viewer averages of CNN (1.835M) and MSNBC (955K) from 8pmET-Midnight.

With next Friday marking the final day of production of truTV's "In Session" programming from New York, the network has announced new anchors who will debut from CNN headquarters in Atlanta the following Monday. Among the new hosts is a familiar name: Vinnie Politan. A long-time CourtTV and truTV host, Politan left the network in March, 2008.

The other "In Session" host is Ryan Smith who has appeared as a legal commentator on many networks. He specializes in entertainment law and hosted a show on BET called "My Two Cents."

The new "In Session" will feature reports from Beth Karas, who has been with the network since 1994.

In Session has also named three contributors: Mike Brooks, who will be the network's law enforcement analyst, Midwin Charles and Sunny Hostin.

truTV remains based in New York but the daytime production "In Session," which airs from 9amET-3pmET is shifting from studios in New York to studios in Atlanta. The production team in Atlanta is part of HLN.

"World News with Charles Gibson" will air a special one-hour edition tonight focused on yesterday's massacre at Fort Hood.

Bob Woodruff, Terry Moran and Ryan Owens will report from Texas on the investigation, the victims and the heroic first responders. Brian Ross will report on what is known about the alleged shooter and his motives. Martha Raddatz and Bill Weir will contribute reporting on the impact on the US military.

In addition, Charlie Gibson will have an exclusive interview with Army Chief of Staff General George Casey Jr. and his wife, Sheila.

Last night on the broadcast, Gibson reflected on his time in the military, discussing the location of the massacre with correspondent John Quinones: "I go back to my time in the military, John. This is a processing center. And I remember, we used to line up to get shots and whatever just before we were about to do anything."

ABC's Jeffrey Kofman will also be reporting live form Orlando on the mass shooting there.

With the news that Oprah Winfrey may take her daily talk show away from broadcast affiliates and to her own OWN cable network, that got us wondering: should Glenn Beck, now the #2 show on cable despite airing in he afternoons, be Oprah's syndicated replacement?

Beck is well-rounded. Between his #1 best-selling books and comedy shows he's a three-dimensional talent that could easily adapt to daytimes. He could also use his radio audience to promote to local affiliates.

Just yesterday, the New York Times reported novelists are considering Beck to be the "New Oprah," when it comes to endorsing political thrillers. "He's our Oprah," author Brad Thor told The Times' Motoko Rich. "God love him, we're very fortunate."

Oprah Winfrey averages about 6.8 million viewers a day airing at various times across the country (9am in Chicago, 3pm in Los Angeles, 4pm in New York.) In October, Beck's live and same-day DVR average was 2.7M daily viewers, and that's on cable.

Heck, even CBS' Les Moonves has Beck to thank for a good quarterly report.

Beck is locked in to a multi-year deal with Fox News which would probably keep him from jumping anytime soon. His show premiered in January, and quickly shot past all competitors and even programs on his own channel, which air later in the evening to larger available audiences.

Just as the shooting rampage in Orlando was coming to an end, with the arrest of the suspect, the cable news channels turned their attention back to Texas. At 2:34pmET there was a worldwide moment of silence to honor the 13 people killed and more than 30 wounded in yesterday's massacre at Ft. Hood. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates declared the moment of silence, planned for 24 hours after the shooting and asked U.S. military forces around the world to take part.

At 12:33pmET, the Twitter feed @BreakingNews, which is attached to the BNONews site, reported on a mass shooting this morning at an Orlando office building.

HLN and CNN reported the news, with choppers/information from all three affiliates, WFTV, WESH and WKMG, at 12:35pm. MSNBC, using NBC affiliate WESH-TV's chopper, broke in at 12:36 and Fox News reported the story at 12:37.

The latest news is that 8 people have been shot and the shooter is not in custody.

• In what may be the cheesiest local news tagline, WESH-TV would like you to know they have BIG COVERAGE OF THE BIG STORY.

• FNC's coverage is hampered by their O&O WOFL which apparently does not have a chopper, and is relying on traffic cameras.

• One of the first reports from Orlando on CNN came from, not a correspondent, or reporter, but one CNN's All Platform Journalists, as they're known.

A headline on Thursday with an article about television ratings for elections coverage on Tuesday night may have left the incorrect impression that ratings for Fox News on Election Night were artificially increased. The network's coverage had bigger ratings gains than those of its rivals; its ratings were not inflated.

TVNewser hears Eric Sherling, executive producer of CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" is leaving CNN and will join ABC's Good "Morning America".

Sherling joined CNN in 2000, became executive producer of Wolf Blitzer Reports in 2002, then a supervising producer for "The Situation Room" when it launched in August 2005, before becoming EP in 2006.

In a note sent by GMA Senior EP Jim Murphy and obtained by TVNewser, Murphy writes that during this "time of transition" for the show, Sherling brings "an excellent track record and reputation."

No word on a start date. Sherling will report to Murphy and to EP Tom Cibrowski.

At 8:30amET sharp, the business networks reported something that hasn't happened since 1983 -- the unemployment rate shot past 10%. With 190,000 jobs lost in October, the rate is now 10.2%. For CNBC, Hampton Pearson was outside the Labor Deptarment with the stats. For Fox Business, Peter Barnes broke the news, during Imus in the Morning. Lizzie O'Leary reported the news for BloombergTV.
